Ethereum Dencun Upgrade: Gas Fees Drop 90% on Layer-2 Networks

The Ethereum network successfully activated the Dencun upgrade, introducing proto-danksharding (EIP-4844). The upgrade has dramatically reduced transaction fees on Layer-2 networks like Arbitrum, Optimism, and Base.

"This is the single most impactful upgrade since the Merge," said Ethereum Foundation researcher Dankrad Feist. "Blob-carrying transactions have fundamentally changed the cost structure for rollups."

Following the upgrade, daily transactions on major L2s jumped 35%.
